The parents of a Fort Lewis soldier killed in Iraq earlier this month say someone shot their daughter on an American military base near Kirkush.
Staff Sgt. Amy Tirador of Colonie, N.Y., died Nov. 4 in what the military called a noncombat incident. Her mother told The News Tribune on Tuesday that her 29-year-old daughter was shot execution-style, in the back of the head.
The military is investigating, a process that could take two or three months. Until then, officials are releasing few details. read more »

Iraq War Vets Walking and Biking Across the Country: Josh Steiber
Submitted by mgibbs on Mon, 10/05/2009 - 3:46pm.October 15 at 7 pm, join Josh to hear his stories about connecting with people and veterans across the US.
"As Iraq Veterans, we have experienced in our own lives what living a life of compromise, fear, judgment, and violence brings: hate, terror, death and pain. As we walk and bike across the country, we know our actions alone may not change the world or stop the war, but we do know our love can be contagious. We hope, that in the way we have seen fear and terror spread and infect the american nation for so long, that love can become just as contagious. We hope you will join us."
Josh and the staff at Coffee Strong invite you to hear this compelling story. You can see photos and blog entries at www.contagiousloveexperiment.wordpress.com
Bring a snack to share if you like.
