8 Things That You Can Do to Stop the War From Iraq/Afghanistan
-
Whistle Blowing- The reason that the deplorable abuses at Abu Ghraib ended was because someone had the courage to report abuses. You should document and report all abuses of soldiers, civilians, and prisoners to your chain of command. If they do not respond, or if they are the predicator of the abuse, report them to the media. Links to various media sources are included in the links section as well as links to statutes protecting whistle blowers.
-
Be honest with people when you speak and write to people back home. Tell them about all the bad things that happen. Make them listen. Show them pictures. Don't let them have their illusions.
-
Let other soldiers know how you feel. There are many other soldiers who feel the way you do. Talk about it with them and organize. Share movies like Sir, No Sir and Fahrenheit 9/11with them.
-
Write blogs. GI Voice has space for you to write about your experiences. http://givoice.olympiaworkers.net/node/add/blog
-
Join anti-war organizations. Iraq Veterans Against the War is one of many that you can check out in the links section.
-
Demand that your needs are met by the military. If you have medical problems make sure that they are treated. If the military won't treat them, let people know. Let your family and the media know that your health care needs are not being met. If you aren't issued protective gear or the gear you are issued is substandard, let people know about it. Don't let anything slide.
-
Don't re-up! Right now the Army is having a hell of a time keeping people. They may be offering big, tax free bonuses, and guaranteed duty station of choice, but don't be fooled. They will lie to you by telling you that you will get called back to duty on IRR if you get out. If you get out as a veteran, many states will give you free college. The GI bill will give you a check for over $1000 a month, each month you are in school for three years. Your superiors will pressure you but don't give in. Things are much better on the outside.

Stay safe. You don't want to be the last person to die in Iraq/Afghanistan. Stay safe and come home so that you can tell your story.
